System of a down- political and spiritual lyrics with a purpose. Plus, I don't know any other band that has utilized singing in thirds quite as well.
HIM- also for great lyrics, but more so for haunting melodies.

Chicago.......They are my favorite because in an era when every other rock band was made up of guitars and drums they introduced a unique sound to rock .......horns. And the rest is history. They went on to become one of the best rock bands of all time.

Iron Maiden. Why? Intelligent lyrics, dealing with issues ranging from religion, to death, to myths, to historical situations, to historical novels, poems, and stories, etc. Good sound and they're very energetic. Oh, and let's not forget all the concerts they do for charity, and the work they do on trying to find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.

The Beatles that is when music changed. I think because they wrote the lyrics and the music for most of the songs they recorded is an notable accomplishment.
