yes it is but the downside is that they don't accept any other help like the council offering them a place to stay etc... as its so much easir living on the street when people provide for you as you can buy all kinds of take aways for a pound these days.

If you really feel like giving money maybe look up your local salvation army as they help out a lot of homeless, abused etc... people who geniunely need the help and you know then that its going to the right people since some beggars have actually been found to be fake... they live in a proper house, have a nice car but they just find it easir to beg.

Yes, it doesn't matter what it is they need be it food, clothing, drugs or booze. What matters is that they need and that they are willing to ask for help, rather than take it from someone who can't afford it by violent or non-violent means.

But for the grace of god, anyone of us could be a beggar - addiction and/or poverty can come to anyone, at any time. If you can help, don't feel guilty, the time may yet arrive when you need help and then I hope someone gives it to you.

Yup, most of them don't choose to be beggars. I just read a hilarious sign while driving today, it was some guy holding a sign that said "standing in the hot sun, just wanting a cold one"

I believe that is okay in most cicumstances if you feel comfortable doing so. However beware of persistent people who ask for money because if you keep giving in they will never leave you alone. Also don't give money to someone who is obviously telling a lie as to why they need some money because it's not right to deceive someone when asking for their help. If they tell you I need money to buy a beer or food or whatever at least they are being honest. So give or don't give but don't feel bad if you don't feel comfortable giving.

To each his own.
It is up to you, however keep in mind you don't know the people who stand, sit around asking for money or what they will be using it for.
It seems nowadays some people make that their job by asking for money from those who work hard for their money, just so that they don't have to do the hard work on earning their own.
It seems these people know where they can get help and if they don't you would be better off calling the cops...It is illegal to beg on the streets in most places.
And most of them earn better then those who actually work a real nine to five job.

No, you are not helping.

In nearly all major cities beggers or homeless people are either going to use the money for drugs/booze or they are part of organised begging. This applies to the majority of beggers and homeless. If you want to help or assist you should give your money to a charitable organisation or even better give your time to that organisation to provide help. Also you should bear in mind that giving money to a genuine homeless or begger could put them at risk too of being mugged or attacked for that money.

It's ok to give money to whoever you want. But the question is this? What do they spend their money on? and, Why are they so ungrateful sometimes? My husband saw this guy that had holes in his shoes. He felt so bad so he gave the guy his brand new Converse All Stars. But, as we were driving away, we looked back and he was throwing them in the dumpster next to the store we gave them to him at. He felt so bad. Why beg for money if they're just going to use it to buy liquor?
