Limewire will work, but Rhapsody won't.

The rule is, if you're getting a music file that is .mp3, you can put it on the IPOD. If you get it from Itunes or Audible, you can put it on your IPOD. Pretty much any other pay service (Rhapsody, Napster, etc) uses .WMA, and won't go on your IPOD.

There's 2 main types of DRM out there for music subscription:
Apple's Itunes .AAC format (IPOD only)
Microsofts "plays for sure" .WMA format (everything else)

Limewire falls into the "free music" category, and you'll get .mp3s which can be played on any player.

As far as using "Itunes the program" to transfer music from your PC to your IPOD, there are other programs you can download that will also work, but most people who buy IPODS like Itunes.

i'm not sure, but what i heard is that apple has some kind of software on their ipod's that rejects the format of any other site than it's own. it's their little way of making money!! but you can try aresgold.com because it is better that limewire because of less viruses that your computer may be at risk for and better than Rhapsody because it is free. keep in mind downloading free music is illegal and they are cracking down on it more that ever, so be careful!! hope i helped!!

as far as I know you have to use iTunes to acttualy put the music on the iPod, but you can import the music from any program. and if what your prob is you cant install iTunes because of your operating system, then... well your gonna have to get a new operating system.
do NOT download windows xp from a website. if you do it will crash your system in 30 days. I suggest you find someone who can burn the disk for you. and find install codes on the internet. if you have any other Questions, email me at: herolink86@yahoo.com

Here's the Limewire User guide pages:
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/ug49/ug_options.shtml

It provides an option where you have Limewire automatically send your files to iTunes so they will automatically upload to the iPod when you plug it in.

You can use other applications to download the songs, however, you've got to transfer them to iTunes in order for them to download into your iPod. Sometimes, songs that are downloaded from shareware sites will play on the application, but not on iTunes, and may not transfer successfully.
