The have commercials before and after and during halftime. They do this because the clock never stops. They'd have to interrupt the game just show commercials so they don't. This is why there are company names on uniform jerseys and fieldboards around the soccer field. The exposure that one of these signs gets during hte game equals anywhere from 7 to 15 minutes of time which is way more than a commercial. So by selling uniforms and fieldboards as advertising is how they make a whole lot of dough.

First off football isn't about money it's about the love of the game. Secondly there isn't enough time for major commercials. There can be some at half time but that's about it. America has tried to insert commercials beside the game, sort of a picture in picture thing, but the people at the world cup would pay more money to stop this than the commercial company would pay for the airtime.

there are some commercials in the world cup. an example would be the adidas+10 commercial featuring two kids that pick professional players and they appear to play a game with the kids.
i agree wtih you however that there aren't as many commercials as there used to be in 1998 or 2002.

What would you like them to do stop the game every 20 minutes to air commercials it would make for a very long game, I can honestly say I have not missed them I find them tedious. And like the others that have answered your question they do a lot of advertising at each and every ground. Thanx for two point`s

For the same reason that the U.S. does not promote soccer.
You can't break away for 45 minutes of a non-stop half.
So, since the U.S. is all about money and greed, they aren't interested in a game that doesn't give them time for commercials.

Because there are no timeouts...What they DO have are signs surrounding the field for companies such as McDonald's, Gillette, Yahoo, and other signs such as Fujifilm, FlyEmirates and Continental. That is how they advertise.
