I am 36 weeks pregnant and of course I know to expect back aches. I do have it in my lower back but more weird to me is that my shoulder blades, sides of ribs and middle of back is FULL of knots. It hurts worse than the lower back pain that is known to affect us all. I have a very comfortable bed and thought maybe its was to soft so I've tried the floor, the couch and still my back is nothing but one big old knot. Is this normal and how can I ease the pain??? Backrubs are doing minimal for me at this point.

unfortunately, it's just an effect from pregnancy. If it gets worse/continues, I'd go into OB just to make sure that you are not beginning labor and having back labor. Although it's more common in the lower back, it can still hurt your upper back. Just try to find a position that is comfortable for you and depending on where you are located, if it's not too hot, try a hot bath to ease the pain. good luck in labor :)

I had the worst back pains when I was pregnant. Have your guy continue to give you backrubs if he's still up for it.

There's not much you can do to reduce the pain for good, but here are a few tips I got from the hospital I delivered at:

Sleep with a pillow inbetween your legs. It takes most stress off your spine, because your spine is aligned instead of curved during sleep.

Don't take Ibuprofen. Take Tylenol for any pain you get. Follow the normal doseage instructions, though.

*this one helped me a lot* Get on your hands and knees and rock back and fourth. Bend your spine, and straighten it out. Or get a pillow and put it on your knees and curl up with it.

Any exerice you can do helps. SWIMMING really helped me. Water takes the weight off of you and is a good cardiac exercise. The more endorphins you release, the less pain you feel.

Good luck, you're almost there! And congrats!

Homeopathic treatment for acute back pain consists of various applications of Arnica (Arnica montana); as an oil or gel applied topically to the sore area or oral doses alone or in prepackaged combination products including other homeopathic such as St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum), Rhus tox (Rhus toxicodendron) and Ruta (Ruta graveolens). Bellis perennis may be recommended for deep muscle injuries. Other remedies may be recommended based on the symptoms presented by the patient.

Go to Wal-Mart and pick up some icy hot patches. They work wonders!! I have and had the same problem when I was pregnant. I usally put on the spot that hurts and ware it through the night. It really helps. You can also try heating pads and the heat wraps.

Im 28 weeks, and have the same problem......Not alot we can do, just try to relax, I know it is virtually impossible..Or try to use a heating pad on the low setting, tylenol, only DO NOT take more than 4,000 mg in a 24hr period..Warm baths.....It ROYALLY sucks, I know..Im dealing with it too.

i know you are tired by now, but i would say that if you continue to have back pain epically if it gets worse or if you are feeling it in your stomach as well, you let your doctor know, it could be a sign of labor
best wishes

well,im 35 weeks pregnant and im also having that back grrr aches..
you can do pelvic tilt on all fours to feel a bit relieved..
changing position slowly and frequently may help too!
and squat instead of bending over to get something..
avoid overexertion too!
and please maintain good posture!
