This is basically a function of your public relations department. (I'm guessing you don't have one) It's a promo kit. It tells what sets your company apart from the competition, hi-lights your successes. It probably includes commendations and affirmations from customers especially if they are high profile. It also includes a history of the company, its founders, key players and any other pertinent information that you and/or your PR people think is beneficial to include.

Depends on the client. If you are representing a startup media company that is selling ad space on teen back packs (good luck) a media kit is an entirely different animal than what's been described here.

It would include production specifications, rates, coverage areas, demographics etc.

A media kit can also include portraits of the principals in your company or enterprise, a pic of your headquarters or of the service you provide, and a high-resolution company logo. You can put these on your website under a link like "for the media."

It's a packet of information about media (ie a local radio station will give you a media kit with all their stats - footprint, demographics, core audience, format, jocks, etc.)

Pretty much goes with everyone else too.

It's a packet of information prepared for public relations; it gets passed out to the media by politicians and celebrities for "background".
