It is mostly brown because of a waste product called Bilirubin. The breakdown of red blood cells in the body forms Bilirubin and a lot of it ends up in the intestines where it is changed more by bacteria there, causing the brownness.
Poo can be other colors, though. If you eat a high concentration of food colorings, they can tint the poo. Someone with an ulcer might have black poo because of digesting blood. Someone with a bleeding bum might have red poo. Green poo can come from eating a lot of green veggies. There is a disease called Gilbert's Syndrome which messes with how the body breaks down old red blood cells which cuts down on the Bilirubin in the intestines and makes the poo more yellow then brown. Certain veggies don't get completely broken down in digestion and can fleck the poo different colors - corn and some pepper skin, for example. Babies even poo green or blue sometimes.

The brown colour is due to the pigment stercobilin, a breakdown product of bilirubin after it has been conjugated by the liver and excreted into the bowel as bile via the gall bladder. Bile is acted on by the bacteria in the gut and by enzymes, and produces stercobilin. Very pale 'poo' is often due to a blockage of the bile duct by gall stones, and, much more rarely, by cancer of the head of the pancreas

Mostly in part due to bile salts produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. When you have an obstruction of the common duct that does not allow bile to enter into your intestines you will have clay colored stools. Some artificial and natural food dyes can also affect the color causing a red green or orange color (i have even seen blue) And Iron can cause a dark green color. Chocolate will make it dark brown to black and blood will look either red to black and tarry or coffee ground like.

Red blood cells are continually being broken down and replaced. The main byproduct of this process is called bilirubin, which is (specifically) a breakdown product of hemoglobin, the molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Bilirubin (like many other biochemical wastes) is dumped by the liver into the large intestine via the gall bladder. Stuff that the gall bladder secretes (including bilirubin) is called 'bile', and it is the characteristic color of bile (the main component of which is bilirubin) that gives feces its typical color. Without bile, feces would probably be the color of vomit, as you might expect (but not really like to think about).
As you might expect, feces can change color in sickness.

So it can distinguish itself from pee, but merge well with the soil so you would step on it in its camouflage and next time never do it in the open. This lead to the development of bathrooms!! It is also because we are all brown within our bodies.
Well..... lol.. it is because of the color of what we ate. What we eat comes from the brown ground. It can be yellow, light brown or even black if there is blood in it. It is never white though.. except in the case of certain animals.

Red blood cells die and their hemoglobin is broken down into bilirubin, this is what gives poop its color. Obviously, if the pH of your stomach deviates from its normal set point, then calcium is dumped into the stomach as a buffer which can cause it to turn green/yellow.

because it is mixed with bile which is released from the liver. It can have degrees depending on what u eat, as it turns greenish when u eat too much veggies cuz of the cellulose covered cells containing chlorophyll

It's not always brown. Especially if you're a baby. Those little rascals really know how to mix it up.
