Both political parties are the same. It is just a game, where they always win and we always lose. Sure they each are for and against different things, but it doesn't always make sense (Dems support abortion but are against capital punishment; Republicans are pro-family values but are hawkish on war.)
The independents won't win (except in isolated incidents) because the two big parties won't let them. In pure financial clout alone not independent can survive; the local, state and national party committees have wealth beyond the dreams of avarice, an independent candidate has the money that the election reform has limited him to. Campaign Finance Reform was not designed to keep party candidates in line, they were designed with independant and other parties in mind.

Yes, and yes....but there is a problem in having the Independents and 3rd Parties win....the Independents don't seem to stand for anything, and the 3rd Party folks, well, keep in mind I am one of them, and quiet frankly there are even some Greens, no, a LOT of Greens, I wouldn't want in charge of being Dog Catcher.
And don't even get me started on the uber-rightwad side of the 3rd Parties, because whatever else we do need as a nation, what we *DON'T* need is even more neglect of the American people and even more of that old "Let's let the CEOs and the HMOs ruin everything until WE ALL look like New Orleans post-Katrina...."
Really. Doesn't anyone here know their history? Doesn't anyone *want* to remember what happens when we have so much laissez-faire, Let Them Fatcats Rule kind of non-government that folks die in the gutter?
We have economic depressions. We have riots and we have folks *wanting* to be Nazis and Communists just to put a roof over their heads and bread on their tables.
Is this the CEO Class, One Percenter game plan? Let Peak Oil, Concentration of Wealth, and Religious Fanaticism KILL Western Civilization while the Pampered Rich Old Men run away to China, that Paradise of the Filthy Rich and Sadistic Old Manchu??
Just asking.

Well, it's not that they are anything alike at all. It's just that 40% of teh population are secure republicans & 40% are secure democrats. Since each party KNOWS they are getting those votes unless they really screw up, they don't care what their base thinks. The only way for them to win elections is to compete for the same 20% swing voters in the center. If you're competing for the same votes from the same people who have the same political views, then you're going to seem kind of the same. It's the little things that go on in the agenda behind the scenes & the general direction. It's easy to get jaded, but the differences are important.

Listen, an Independant would'nt be too effective because he would be philerbustered by both parties. It would be a disaster. There needs to be more Independents in the senate and the house before we elect one as president. John McCain is a republican but is very in the middle on most issues.

Here is the basic difference between Republicans and Democrats: Republicans believe more in individual responsibility while Democrats believe more in social responsibility (in that society is responsible).
There are other differences, but that's the general idea. They are not the same, but they do have the same goals. People may see that they have the same goals and get confused as to which is which.

I definitely think the time is right for a third party to be able to make a significant impact. And personally, I would love to see it because I'm really disgusted with both sides ! How about a "common sense" party? We're way overdue for some of that !

They've both gotten too liberal and I think it's time that a few Constitution Party members win, although I'll still hope for Republican majorities.

its all become one BIG political blur. but in my opinion, republicans go for the rich and steel from the poor. kinda like KIng John in robin hood. and the democrats, are Robin Hood, here to make the less fortunate, "poorer society" more how shall we say, "able to stand on their feet without gettin ripped off"

Yes, but with some pretty major differences, the main one being who your money goes to. With one party it goes to corporate welfare, with the other it goes to social welfare. Some result, less money in your pocket, more in someone else's.
It is time for the PEOPLE to win, not independents. www.lp.org

No, it's time to drop labels and make every politician explain what he stands for, as an individual. I vote for the person not the party anyway.
