It pains me to say it but Maradona.
Pele was great, but played with fantastic players in the Brazil team and the 1970 team for example that everyone raves about (and rightly so) would have probably won the World Cup without him.
The Argentina team of 86 was fairly average, Maradona made them world Champions. He also led a very poor team in 1990 to the final against all the odds. He also (unkike Pele) played in Europe where the football is more competitive and took a team like Napoli to the Scudetto. No disrespect to older players but he also played in a much more higher skill level era than Pele, Best and others mentioned.
Diego made the players around play better and led teams that usually would not have been champions to champions.
Diegos the best of all time.
