My 13-year old daughter's left breast is twice as big as right one & she's understandably concerned. I tell her to be patient... that the right one will 'catch up', but is this really true? Or is it more likely that the asymmetry will remain (or increase) and that she will 'need ' (want) cosmetic surgery [once she has matured fully] to correct this?

Its highly likely that be the end of puberty things will have evened out, but in the mean time, stretching and massaging the breast tissue is known to encourage the cells to reproduce and growth. Its best to try this when the skin is supple so perhaps in the shower or after a bath. Tell her not to pull it until it hurts, just to keep gently pull into a shape to match her left breast. This may also be a good time to teach her to check her breast for anything suspicious and how to do that, because its a similar process. Remind her that she is a growing woman and that unfortunately, checking your breasts is something that she must do.

If things dont even out, surgery could be an option if thats really the route she wants to take. In the mean time, reassure her that what she is experiencing is natural for a lot of girls her age and shes not alone in this. You may want to get her a pamphlet on puberty which you could pick up from your doctor, or take her to the library to look at health books.

You are right, it is something that could be a concern. Not that it's a big deal, but to her self confidence it could be. For now let her use padding to even it out. Tell her to give it two years from the start of her period. If it doesn't correct itself, tell her you will take her to a cosmetic surgeon to fix it. I went to a cosmetic surgeon. Not for that. But my doctor said that problem is highly common. At 16 if it doesn't correct itself, he does alot of implant surgeries to correct it. Good luck...

asymmetry is normal and is not normally cause for concern (unless she has a lump)

most women have at least one cup size difference between breasts, and it is usually "treated" by removing the padding from your bra on the more developed side

when she gets her yearly pap smear this year her ob can tell you more, and also talk to her about breast changes that may be abnormal (and need to be noted and reported to a doctor) when your daughter does her monthly breast exam

Many women have problems with breast asymmetry. Take her to a bra fitter such as in a dept. store or Victoria's Secret. They will help her. It may or may not correct itself. Ask the dr.

People need to stop being concerned about their natural body and focus on what is important.

uh i remember reading about that in a book and i think you want to take her to the doctor becuase most of the time it will not fix itself if its left untreated for too long
