Work up a flyer with prices for various activities and PERSONALLY hand them out in your neighborhood. Bring along a calendar to fill when they need you so you don't forget. Example: (set your own chores and prices)
Raking/Mowing: $10
Cleaning Windows: $5
Wash Car: $5
Be sure to have varying chores that fit the needs of your neighbors. Also, depending on your age, have a parent come door-to-door with you. Not only is this safer (please be safe!), but people are more willing to hire a child if they know that his/her parent is supportive. Good luck!

Some great answers were already given to your question and you might need the help of an adult to do some of my suggestion and since I am a strong believer in working for myself, setting my own hours, at my own pace and I know that the effort that I put in today will pay off later on. So if you have an extra 1/2 to a hour a day..here are a few of my recommendation to help you make extra money that are free to start up or to be part of..(1) Make your own website or blog, money can be made by sharing your experiences or expertises on various issues, also selling products or information is extremely easy..for more info visit http://webinfo1.shorturl.com
(2) To make extra pocket change daily, visit this website http://winner.2fortune.com this site has tips and tricks to help you make easy extra money at home on the computer
Other suggestions for making money from the Internet:
(3) Sell stuff on Google Base http://base.google.com/
or EBay http://www.ebay.com .You can buy stuff from yards sales, discount bins at your local store and resell them..Also there might be a local auction site that you can use to sell your stuff, less cost for shipping etc....(4)WARNING If you are thinking about "stuffing enevelopes" I highly recommend you read this first http://homebiztools.com/questions/stuffing-envelopes.htm (5) If you do choose any of the first 3 suggestions, just don't expect to be a billionaire overnight, just be consistent and you will make extra money!

depends how old he is. if he's younger than 14 then he may consider doing chores for parents, friends, neighbors, etc.
if he is 14 or older he may consider being a sports referee which pays well and keeps them active.
