That is a tuff one, very few perennials flower all summer. Usually perennials bloom only once and then they are done. I would recommend annuals, they are inexpensive, provide the most color and bloom all summer. For shade, try impatience, begonias, and some trailing green like sweet potato vine, emerald falls, etc.

Wal-Mart has a large selection of seeds, they have boxes of already mixed different kinds of flowers. The one I used for my shaded part of the yard was "Cottage shade flowers" they grow really well, and are very pretty, with a wide variety of flowers. I would reccomend going to a nursery or a place that sells flowers and read the little tabs that come in the pot, they will usually tell you wether or not it's a shade plant or a sun plant.

She's right about the perennials. Also being in a flower box you need a hardy plant . Go for impatiens. They're beautiful and they're hard to kill (trust me!) If you want some more texture get a boston ivy to mix in with your annuals. It will trail a little, but it won't take over your siding.

I hate to say it but perennials only bloom for a month and then come back the next year. Annuals will bloom all summer and not come back. Some self seeding ones such as marigolds and petunias might work. Herbs would be a good choice my favorite is pinapple sage. It comes back. Fennell looks beautiful with its foliage. Basil and Rosemary also look good.
