I think people will think that they'll get famous--their fifteen minutes so to speak. I also think that the allure of money and the trip helps spur them to do it.
Sometimes I think that people that go on some reality shows really do want help, like Dr. Phil and Supernanny. But people who go Jerry Springer are only doing it for the attention and so that their friends will think that they are cool. Even the though the rest of America thinks they're idiots.
I don't think I could ever go on any reality show because I'm too much of a private person, and the thought of the whole nation knowing my business creeps me out.

There are many reasons as to why people do this. It could be for the money, trip and 15 minutes of fame like on the Maury Show or Jerry Springer. However from what I hear people on the Springer show are actors at times.
As for Oprah and Dr. Phil. Well some people are desperate for help and others may want to help others by bringing them on. I think that these shows can be beneficial to people as it can offer real life solutions for people who are in the same situation as the ones on the show and do not have the courage to go on national TV and let their secrets to be known. At least people are asking for help and are getting some decent help from Dr. Phil and his staff.

I'm sure some people do it for the free trip, but others might see it as a last chance effort to save their relationship, control their kids, etc. I would have to be in a REALLY bad place before I'd risk the kind of humiliation that could come with being on national tv.

The free trip would be part of it. They are also seeking attention, and validation for their "cause" or complaint. You know, the average person only gets 15 minutes of fame in their lfie, and for them......that's IT!

because they want their 15 minutes of fame, when in reality they don't realize how bad they look.
Some have even said they did it just to get noticed by movie producers. Good thing the producers missed that show.

It amazes me. Have no idea why they would want to put themselves through the embarrassment and humiliation. Who wants to be well-known for looking like an idiot?
