I think to some degree yes; I mean I know weddings are a tradition that has gone on forever, but the emphasis some girls put on having everything expensive and perfect is ridiculous. I would rather have a small, quietly elegant wedding than a huge one with all the hooha that goes along with that, and even I admit that at 39, I still have a hard time getting past the dream of a beautiful gown and all that...I am sure also that wealthy parents help things along by trying to have THE most perfect and fancy wedding they can for their daughters to impress relatives and neighbors. In todays modern society, I think the whole need for a huge wedding to formally join a couple is a little archaic-most couples have been out in the world as individuals for a while anyway, and are marrying for love (one hopes), not for the sake of following some societal norm. BTW if I ever marry the man I love, I almost would rather it be just the two of us going off somewhere quietly; it seems more sacred and special that way somehow to me.
But can I still wear the dress, lol???

All women want to feel special at least once. But weddings are not really a woman's idea. Weddings are part of a religious rite of passage. Only in modern times, women have a stronger influence on what they were at a wedding, for example. Still, the rules that determine a proper behavior at a wedding remain mostly the same. A bride is too busy preparing for the ceremony and meeting the guests afterwards to allow herself for a childish imagination.

They are driven by the corrupt fallacies of a mother living vicariously through her daughter by ensuring her that fairytales can come true if she waits for her prince in shining armour to rescue her. Even after marriage she is still driven by the exhausting need to obtain true love as a miracle and not a hard working process in motion.
