I think the cops overlook it because they know that those poor fellows are just overcompensating, due to penis envy.

A dart gun to those speakers should be legal!
EDIT AGAIN: I have ridden Motorcycles, NOT impressed with them, and I have no desire to try to impress people while actually looking like a dirtball scumbag!
to the 9inch wonder if you had 9 inches you would wonder who you borrowed it from or if you really believe that you have 9 inches, you are not supposed to start measuring from your rectum! Tell the truth the real reason you ride that noise maker is you are the 2.5inch wonder!

Well, Saggy Ace does make a point ... Loud Pipes do save lives.
See, the Harley riders are so deafened by their "drag pipes" (any relation to "Drag Queens" BTW?) that they can't hear the sirens coming and ride right into traffic, and get squished.
Squished Harley riders seldom commit crimes. They don't shoot anyone, or stab anyone or sell anyone illegal narcotics ,,, definitely an improvement on the living version.
His other point, that this is America, for gosh sakes, is darn well taken. I had forgotten that this is the place where the Founding Fathers mandated our Right to Be Loud in the Constitution. Oh, you missed that one?
Bottom line here is that Harley riders can be ticketed for being too loud. And in my little town, they are.
Cheers.

It is not just on the Harley's that there are loud many metric riders have them also. and they are an after market addon. It is true that many believe they save lives becuase you can be more noticed. It is also true that 40-50% of all motorcycle accidents are caused by the cager who doesn't know we are beside them in front of them or close by. if you want to make loud engine noises change your exhaust sytem on your car, suv, or trruck.
Loud pipes do cause problems for riders as places like Myrtle Beach, Daytona, Laconia are cracking down on the loud pipes and it is usually the 1%'ers that are in residential neighborhoods where they shouldn't be anyhow. But like our entire society there are Jerkoffs that think they can break the rules and it will be ok and it is those folks that make it rough on everyone else. Take a couple of days and read the laws for your locality and see how many laws have been made to regulate common sense things
as far as sayin that bikers are criminals, gays, males compensating or other derogator remarks remember your opinion is like an asshole and we all have one

I have nothing against motorcycle riders. My husband had one and enjoyed riding it. But I do object to the noise. I don't know why they can't be as quiet as cars. Are they in violation of the law? Or are noise levels different for motorcycles than cars? I do agree about the loud music coming from some cars. Especially when they've got the stereo set so you can actually feel them coming down the street. Tickets should be issued to all who violate the noise pollution laws.

First off...
Harleys AREN'T allowed...they are mandated/required to meet very strict EPA codes, just as automobiles are...when purchased or first registered. They are built from the factory with completely legal exhaust, that is quiet, and conforms to both noise level, and exhaust level requirements as mandated by the Feds.
Now, that being said, most Harley riders prefer the sound of drag pipes (the loud pipes you refer to) for several very legitimate reasons....
1. This is AMERICA! We have freedom of choice, and it's their choice to have pipes on their bikes, just like it's your choice to sit on this website and say inane crap about something you guys know absolutely nothing about.
2. Drag pipes SAVE LIVES. How many times have you known a Harley was around you or your car before you actually saw the bike and rider??? As a rider myself, I can tell you without a doubt, the number one reason for motorcycle accidents is not the fault of the rider, but the fault of drivers of cars that didn't know the bike was there.
3. Drag pipes make more horsepower. When used on a bike that has the carburetor(s) re-jetted, a bike with a less-restrictive exhaust can make substantially greater horsepower and torque -- once again, something that most of you have no idea about.
4. They sound awesome. Now, that's purely subjective, of course. However, it's an opinion that's shared by millions of riders. More so than the number of riders that care for the booming bass-only sounds generated by the over-powered and over-subwoofered (yes, dumb-***, I know that's not an actual word) sound systems emanating from most econo-box, crap imports found on the road, driven by a stupid and misguided young group that doesn't know any better.
5. Each to his own. Let people make their own choices. It's what makes this country the greatest Nation among nations.
Coincidentally, your typical Harley rider, is the kind of man that has served his Country, defending our great nation -- which is more than most liberal, pusstastic, weak-minded ignoramus' have done in their entire lifetimes. If you feel you must call Harley riders gay or say that they are compensating, may I suggest that you take a trip to Sturgis one year, stand on your soap box, and sing your sad little song? Or if you think that we're not real men, take a trip one Memorial Weekend to the Nation's Capitol (that would be Washington, D.C. for you morons) and observe Rolling Thunder, and witness the kind of people that defend this Nation, and our rights, including the right to use drag pipes... you might actually learn what it means to BE AMERICAN someday.

The police are supposed to give them a fix-it ticket, but they just don't care, I guess. Motorcyles are supposed to run with an exhaust system that meets both state and federal emissions. Those guys that put on those after-market pipes that are too noisy are a hazard for all motorcyclists (like me). If you are noticing a problem in a neighborhood or a specific area you could probably report it to the local police. Who knows, if enough of a stink is raised they just might start cracking down.

I ride a Harley even though I am a heterosexual who is comfortable with his penis size. Most people who ride Harleys are productive members of society. How else could you afford one? I agree that drag pipes are too loud, but stock pipes are way too quiet. The police here have Harleys and no way are their pipes stock. But all in all.....if you are riding around town and you are cracking the throttle.....they'll pull you over just like they would if you have your sound system cranked to 10 million decibals.

That's because many Harley riders are loud, angry people, and so they want their vehicles to emulate their personalities. There are noise ordinances, though, that go by Db (noise level), and if your vehicle exceeds that, you can get the big phat ticket for excessive noise.

Sgt Ace, you are right on target. I am with a Motorcycle association that ministers to the biker world about Christ. The same people that judge bikers so blindly, are the same ones that hypocritically sit in pews and get upset when a stranger walks into their church. They are so brain washed by our society that they have lost their understanding of God and Country. I salute you sir.
