situation is: bottom of last inning, 1 out, men on 1st and 3rd. home team is down by 2. batter hits an apparent 3 run walk off, but after runner on 1st crosses 2b, he comes back (does not retouch 2b) and hugs the batter who is now in between 1st and 2nd. runner then proceeds to 3rd and then home. play is protested, and runner that went back to hug batter is called out. what is the proper ruling? rules are MLB

I believe it falls under Rule 7.02.

In advancing, a runner shall touch first, second, third and home base in order. If forced to return, he shall retouch all bases in reverse order, unless the ball is dead under any provision of Rule 5.09. In such cases, the runner may go directly to his original base.

As long as that runner didn't pass the batter, there should be no out called

runner should be out for making contact on the bases with another player. and also for not retouching second base. everyone else is safe.

For not touching a base he should be out and what kind of idiot would go back to hug a player who hit a homer without scoring first. Must be a Cubs player.
