It isn't just Australian fans. Soccer fans in general are extremely nationalist except for the United States team. We just don't give a hoot.

I am rooting for Italy too and am glad they won, but I felt sad for the Australian team because they played a hard game. Buffon is just the best when it comes to fending off goals! Love him! In general, to respond to your question, if Italy lost, the fans would have also been upset. Any of the countries take the loss hard and justifiably so. All the other countries really appreciate soccer (football). I am floored when the U.S. shows an exciting soccer game and then within a minute after the game they start talking about baseball, etc. Soccer is a fantastic game and Americans are losing out by not having embraced it by learning and understanding the game. Those who say it is boring, do not get it!

Oh, we aren;t crybabys. if you had your win stollen from you by a dive in the box, you would be dissapointed too. I thought that the ref was doing a pretty good job... up till then. He basically handed the game to the Italians on a silver platter. We definetly deserved to win. He cou;ld have given us the penalty with that italian handball in the box right after Aloisi tried to do a bicycle kick and if it had gone to penalties, we would have won because we have Schwarzer. As far as the Italian goalkeeper being budweiser man of the match, that is bs. Schwarzer saved our butts so many times. We just couldn't get it in and you guys were REALLY ReALLY REALLY lucky.

I couldn't care less about which teams win. All I care about is who plays the best game of soccer. And by that, I mean the best use of SKILLS. With the Italy vs Australia game, I wish both teams could have simply been eliminated from the tournament for the poor level of play.
