I would say that you shouldn't have sex until you talk to your doctor again, just in case. I would call your OB/GYN as soon as possible and ask. Often when you lose your mucous plug you're supposed to go to the hospital immediately, because labor is starting and there is potential for infection once the plug is gone. Since labor hasn't started for you, I would cease sex until you discuss it with your doctor.
And FunkyFresh, the human gestation period is from 38 to 40 weeks (40 ideally), not 9 months. Someone coined the "9 month" rule because it was convenient. It's not an accurate measurement of pregnancy duration.

I lost my plug at 35 weeks and asked my doc at the next appointment if sex was OK. She said yes. So we had sex at 36 1/2 weeks, and I ended up going into labor! Could have been a "freak accident" but I think losing the plug and having sex caused baby to come early!

I don't know about an "infection", that is rather an abstract statement, but I would refrain from sex until you speak with your doctor at this stage. I know my husband and I were told to have to sex to speed up labor and that was the day before he was born, so I don't think, really, that sex is an issue, unless of course there are complications with the pregnancy that you didn't mention.
It might be a bit uncomfortable though.
You should have this baby any day by the sound of it.

Throughout pregnancy a mucus plug blocks the opening to the cervix to prevent bacteria from entering. Before labor, this mucus plug is expelled so that the cervix can open to allow the baby to pass through to prepare for delivery. Passing a mucus plug is a sign that your cervix is dilating and your body is starting to prepare for birth. Labor could be hours, days, or even weeks away as the cervix gradually opens over time.
I lost my plug a month before I had my daughter and my doctor advised me not to have intercourse.
Please see your doctor.

You only have to worry about getting a sexually baby threatening infection IF your membranes have ruptured. The baby is completely safe and cut off from the outside untill then, even if your dialated. Sex might actually speed things up for you!!!!!! Just to be safe though, you two can wash your happy place before you play

I was told not to have sex or a bath after you loose your mucus plug. Reason being it can cause infection. Be safe.

I was told to tell my DR if I lost my plug and not to have sex due to risk of infection. Obviously you are so close to term that inducing labor wouldn't be horrible but infection would be a huge risk.

Your mucus plug reforms if you are not ready to go into labour its safe to have sex since the water has not broken yet, if you have any other conditions or worrys you should contact your doctor asap.
