Sounds like some kind of truama could have happened to you and your regressing those memories, whether they are good or bad. Do you or your family have any pictures of you when you were younger that you could look at? That might ring a bell to your memories. Maybe have your parents or sibbling tell you about things that happened when you were a tike...that might jar something as well! I don't know if I'd call it normal nor odd....just different. I remember things from Kindergarden or there about.
Not to much before that though!
Hope when you do remember something...it's mainly pleasant!

I'm 34 and I have the same issue. I do remember a plane trip when I was 3, don't ask me why, but the earliest I remember was some memories from kindergarten. I think, before then, our minds were more bent on learning things. The older we got, we started to store memories. Look at what happens as we get older. We start to forget again. I think it's just the way the brain works. Learning, retaining, forgetting. Maybe?

A lot of people only start remembering their life after age 3 or so. But I have independent memory of when I was 3yrs and long before that , because we moved when I was 3. I remember in our first home, after my parents were asleep, I would struggle and struggle to get over the side of my baby bed and fall on their bed and then wiggle up to their faces.
My sister has a lot of childhood memories missing and her counselor told her it was from her marriage at 16 to an abusive man. Somehow her brain blocked out not only a lot of her time with him, but a lot before that too.
Maybe you had some childhood trauma that you're not remembering.

I think this would be very very odd indeed if you don't remember any of the following:
1. The names or faces of any of your gradeschool teachers?
2. The layout of your gradeschool?
3. The route from your house to your gradeschool?
4. The names of one or more gradeschool friends?
5. Did you ever go over to friends houses? If so, where did they live in relation to you?
6. What was Christmas like at your house? Did you have a tree? Hang stockings?
If you don't remember any of that then I would say it is very unusual. But if you remember the generalities - like stuff listed above - that's about all there is. I was the youngest of 7 kids, but I don't remember things such as who put me to bed or what bedtime was like. (Did we read books or was it just lights out?)

I think a lot of people don't remember every little thing. Do you remember close childhood friends and bits of things? Myself, I remember bits and pieces of scattered memories starting at 3-4 and more after the age of 5, but I don't remember day to day of my life. Heck, I can't even remember what I had for dinner 2 days ago!

Our brains record everything that happens, but we can't always access the data. Our earliest memories are buried the deepest, and perhaps partially erased by physical or psychological trauma.
Young children have to learn to know themselves as individual beings, unconnected to Mommy or the environment. My earliest memory involves that separation into individual awareness: I had climbed up on a chair and was standing with my arms spread, proud of the achievement...the earliest feeling of self and individual worth. I couldn't have been more than 2 or so, because my mother took a picture of me standing there, and it was before my sister was born.

It takes years for your brain to wire itself up correctly. Some people never get that luxury. I barely remember high school and no, I didn't do drugs.
When you are a child you remember small things. Your most difficult task was to walk. That took a lot of muscle coordination and brain power. Think about it. What controls your muscle movements? Now you don't even think of how to walk, you just do.
People remember things best when more than one sense is involved. Perhaps you were never frightened or terribly amused, just a plain old normal youngster. It is normal to not remember much or any of your youth.

what happens it's that you never use your childhood memories to share with other people. that's why you may have forgotten them, but if you have relatives like parents or uncles, they may help you out to remember them, i mean there could be pictures that you can look at when you were a kid. If you're 36, i think it's kind of normal because you tend to forget the past and focus more in the present and even your future....

No not really "odd".... pretty common actually. More than likely at that age (or perhaps before that) you had a traumatizing experience(s) and you've blocked out that part of your childhood. In time (when your mind is ready for it) you'll remember everything and be able to cope with it, then move forward with your life. good luck.

Maybe you had some type of trauma in those years that you are blocking out. I am over 50 and can go back as far as 3 or 4 years of age
