Some people who are overweight are under the mistaken impression that diet soda will help them lose weight. .
Since diet soda has a taste and good water does not, it is easy to buy a diet soda. What people do not realize that diet soda is not designed to quench your thirst, or quiet your hunger: It is the opposite. Diet soda makes you more likely to get hungry, and gets you even more thirsty. (However, it is better in calories than regular soda.)
Also, as the commercial target the population who are not naturally skinny, people don't think twice about drinking a diet soda. Since some diet sodas contain caffeine they can actually dehydrate a person, and if they don't drink enough water as well as the diet soda they can get sick from that alone.
In social settings people are more likely to ask for diet soda than they are going to ask for some water with lime. It seems more socially acceptable.
I know, I have about 14 cans of diet soda in my families kitchen that are mine.
I do try to drink a lot of water.
The other thing, the words "fat people" is a value judgment we do not appreciate. It is hard enough dealing with all the people who think they know why we are heavier. It is not always from eating too much. Besides, our weight is no ones business but our own.

Oh my god people can be so mean. I know why I drink diet soda, because I don't want to add empty calories to my diet, what sane person would if they are watching their weight. Not all fat people eat enormous amounts of food, some are really on a diet and on the way to being more healthy. Stop the stereotypes. Peace.

Sometimes they feel guilty for what they have recently eaten. Diet soda never really helps, but it gives the impression towards people that it does actually help. They are not the only people who drink diet soda. Many skinnier people drink it as well, and some how still consider themselves to be "fat".

Because it does make the tiniest difference (I'm 5"5 and 110 so I don't know from experience really but....) I know if I decide to splurge and have a burger (400 calories) and fries (another 400 cal) from In N Out I'm certainly not going to waste another 140 calories on a regular Coke when Diet will be just fine.

Leave them alone popcorn boy.
Fat people also enjoy the good life like all of us and want to indulge in something sometimes - so society has told them that drinking diet labelled drinks is a way to maintain their sanity about their urges or cravings. They know it doesn't make much of a difference but we all do stupid things in the name of love. I am slender and I hate pop, so I don't understand the need but I do understand sugar cravings.

Well this could be for different reasons. One could be that they are diabetics. Two they are on a diet. Three they might not like the taste of regular sodas. And four because THEY JUST WANT TOOO!

This is beyond me I guess they think it will wash the excess food down eaiser, diet soda taste gross to me but all I drink is water, keeps my body washed out, 8-8oz glasses a day.every fat person should try this, besides that it helps to keep you full all day long.

In hopes they will loose weight and get their soda fix at the same time. Also they want to look like they are being sensible in what they eat and drink and they want people to see that they care about controlling their weight problems

diabetes....................one of the things most obese people have..........they have to keep their blood sugar low, and soda is loaded with sugars. Some people may just enjoy the taste. My grandmother is obese, and a diabetic, so in turn she has to drink diet soda......i hope this answers your question and i also hope in the future that you will not refer to people as "fat people"
