They are muppets on the show "Sesame Street"
Bert and Ernie debuted on the children's TV show Sesame Street in 1969. They were part of the show's troupe of Muppets, the puppet creations of Jim Henson. (Other Muppets included Kermit the Frog, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.) Sesame Street became a long-running classic and Bert and Ernie continue to appear on the show as friends who live together but bicker constantly (if cheerfully). Bert is the taller, more irritable one and Ernie is the round-faced, goofy one. For many years Ernie was voiced by Henson and Bert by Frank Oz; other performers have since taken over the roles.

even if 2 puppets do at the same time in the privateness of their own residence is their employer. they're also an interracial couple because Bert is yellow and Ernie is orange. It teaches youngsters, spell it with me boys and women folk, T-O-L-E-R-A-N-C-E. they're no longer the in uncomplicated phrases gay Jim Hendson creations. those 2 previous men who sit down in the balcony in the Muppet instruct. i imagine they're also "existence companions". They do only like the theater you realize.

I don't believe they were meant to be anything other than Muppet people. You had a muppet bird, a muppet bear, a muppet frog, and several muppet people. My favorites were Prof. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker.
