Most Africans taken to North America came from the various cultures of western and west central Africa. The territories that are now Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria were the origins of most slaves brought to North America, although significant numbers also came from the areas that are now Senegal, Gambia, and Angola. These areas were home to diverse linguistic, ethnic, and religious groups. Most of the people enslaved were subsistence farmers and raised livestock. Their agricultural and pastoral skills made them valuable laborers in the Americas.

The trans-atlantic slave trade was mainly in west africa. There was slave trade in other parts of Africa esp. those with ports eg East africa but American involvement in this was minimal at best. This was propagated by other Europeans and the Arabs until many Europeans abandoned the practise and legislated agst it in the early 1800's. The Arabs by this time had been kicked out but there presence on the east coast of africa can be traced as far back as the 1400's.

Actually, the Portugese brought back most of the slaves shipped to North America. They were from Western Africa. Most were actually slaves of other tribes that they sold to the Portugese. The African people on the coast were better ablet o capture inland peoples and sell them for a high profit while living quite well.

Americans did not bring most of the slaves from Africa, mostly ships owned by Dutchmen did this trade. And the slaves were from most areas of Africa, and the closest to the Atlantic, the better!

Slaves were bought on the east coast of Africa, however the slaves were brought from the interior by African Slave Traders. These slaves were caught by other Africans, or were captured in battle by Africans, brought to the east coast and then sold to Europeans.
