Some people prefer cremation rather than burial because during cremation you are already turned to dust. In burial some people don't like to think about bugs and such and the decaying process can be rather morbid.

Cremation is a lot cheaper for one thing. A funeral can run $5000 and up. A person can be cremated for less than $600. It is also less expensive to transport a person that has been cremated than it is to transport the remains and a casket. Another reason has been stated before, but some people want their remains scattered at there favorite place, like the ocean.

well from what i can tell people prefer cremation for 2 reasons
1/ its generaly a lot cheeper than burial
2/ some people dont like the idea that their body is going to rot away and become nothing more than worm food. May be its just me but i would rather have my ashes scattered to the wind and travel the world...

I prefer cremation and want to be scattered. It feels more like I'm giving back to the earth that way. I've never felt the need to be "preserved" and boxed and own a little plot of land after I'm gone. I will also be donating any parts of my body which can be used, so I don't intend to take everything with me.
I know a man who is totally against donating body parts, bones, or tissue or being cremated because he believes he will need his whole body because he believes in the rapture.

Some, like myself, prefer cremation because using up valuable resources for rotting bodies is unappealing. Some believe cremation is a way to release the spirit from the body. I personally have an issue with the way Americans handle the death and funereal thing. Seems gross and unnatural to me.

I prefer cremation because I don't see the point on using valuable land to hold a rotting body. With all the cemetarys there are we can build a lot more to help the community. Also, if we bury every human ever, how long before we run out of room. Animals decompose and are gone for ever, so why not us?

Cremation can be cheaper as you don't have to spend hundreds on a coffin that will only be used for a few hours. Others prefer cremation if they have no descendants or if their decendants have moved to another country and therefore cannot tend the grave the way the deceased would like it tended.

I recently went to a funeral, and we were there a really long time, they let doves go and it was all very beautiful, but I don't want that. I'd prefer something simple and inexpensive. There's no need for my family to pay thousands of dollars to put me in a beautiful casket that I won't be alive to appreciate, and is just gonna go in the ground anyway. I'd rather be cremated, and have my ashes tossed somewhere nice like the beach.

burial is a fairly new concept to history. it was mainly depositing a body in a cave or mass burnings that were used for disposing of the dead. today, cost and religious belief is the main factors in whether to cremate or bury the dead. both are for the benefit of the living, and have nothing to do with the dead hulk of anyone.

A dead body in a grave occupies at least 150 cubic feet. A cremated body occupies an urn. I do not want to take up that space for a dead body, my own that is - when the time comes.
