Go to the website of whatever the company of the phone is (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) and it should have a link on there to send a text message.

It very easy go to www.skype.com. You can call anywhere in the USA and Canada for free until the end of the year at which time it will cost you what its cost to call anywhere else in the world now which is 0.0021/min or 15 cents an hour. They have great quality and its easy to use.

if you have aim triton or yahoo mesenger with voice it will work.... on yahoo messenger go to you'r adress book and find the person you want to send the message to and if he/she is not in your adress book go to contacts at the top and then click "add" then when you add the person it has info to add about them on of them is there "mobile number used for sms messages" that is where u add their number. then click next next finish. click adress book then find that person in your adress book and click their name and it should expand and say there email.. to the right of that and click the mobile phone icon. then type what you want that person to see.
