I fly fairly regularly and if you are in bad weather its only a bit like a bumpy car ride but quite safe. I have also gone to Bombay by ship and that took about three weeks from London but that was some time ago. Mauritius isnt that far away from there. Its exciting on a ship and they have something for everyone every day so you wont get bored and you have the opportunity of getting to know people on the way. The only thing is dont travel during the monsoon period ...in fact I think ships dont sail durng that period) otherwise your journey would be far worse than any flight believe me.!!!

I had to fly from Atlanta to London, but from there, I took a boat all around Northern Europe (it was a cruise). I suggest taking an evening flight to Europe (that way you can take sleeping pills and sleep on the plane) then you could travel by boat to see the other countries. Never heard of Mauritius, but hope that this idea helps, and have a good trip!

I wish I had. I've been on short boat journeys and rides, but no ships...one day, perhaps. I do think sailing takes much longer than flying--it would be an interesting way to travel, though.
As to fear of flying--there are ways to conquer that fear, if you wanted to. Look under phobias--fear of flying is not uncommon, and if you wish that you could fly, psychologists can help a person with that.

When I went into the army I travelled by boat to West Germany on six occasions across the North Sea. On each trip I was sea sick and vowed never to sail again. Previous to this I was afraid of flying, but now after nine trips to the USA by plane I really enjoy it. To my mind, flying is much safer than sailing and beleive me you have nothing to fear, as after the initial trip by plane you will wonder why you ever feared flying. Good luck on your travels

I have flown to Mauritius and that took 12 hours, so if you wanted to get a boat (even though i dont think there are any) then you would be looking at a about a week to get there.

Boats are expensive and take months. Did you know you have a much higher chance of dieing in your next car ride then flying? Don't be scared. It's a lot of fun. Just take some sleeping pills and nap on the way.

I was in the Navy and traveled to some foreign countries. I think that travel in a cruise ship would be fantastic, but it will be slower than flying. I don't know if you can go where you want to go.
