Be defensive! Assume everyone else on the road doesn't know what they're doing. Be constantly aware of what is going on ahead, behind and on both sides of you.

I take pride in driving safely. Here are some suggestions.
1. Maintain a safe distance behind the car in front of you
(1 car length for every 10mph, ex: If you are driving at 50mph, maintain a distance of at least 5 car lengths).
2. Always use your blinkers/directional signals. You might know where you are going, but other drivers might not.
3. Observe "rights of way". Example - The driver making a right turn at an intersection has the right of way when they arrive at the same time as a driver making a left turn.
4. Never change lanes abruptly. Wait for a clear opening, use your signals, and proceed to move over. This also applies to pulling out of driveways or parking lots. When you exit a parking lot you will be at a much slower speed than other traffic. Always wait for a safe, and clear time to proceed. My theory is that abrupt movements cause more accidents than speeding ever will. I can not recomend exceeding the speed limit, however it is sometimes safer drive somewhat quickly in order to match the ebb and flow of traffic. Use good discretion and carfeul judgement there.
5. Be cautious at railroad crossings. The signals and arms might not be working, always be alert. NEVER stop on the tracks. Sometimes traffic backs up, so you should wait before the arms of the crossing for there to be enough space to proceed.
6. Be observant. Monitor other drivers, and scan the roadway for potential hazards.
7. Do not allow yourself to be distracted by other passengers, cellular phones, the radio, etc..
Best to all... Be safe!

First of all, if you are a young driver with a license, pay attention to the vehicles around you. then obey and be aware of the traffic signs, signals and road instructions. Drive the speed limits. Use common courtesy, but always be alert, if you wear glasses do so all the time when driving and last but not lest, Don't have any distractions, loud music, eating, or trying to maintain activities other than driving, while driving.

Follow all traffic laws. Come to a complete stop at ALL stop signs. Obey traffic signals. Don't drive over the speed limit. Don't drink/do drugs and drive. Always wear your seat belt and make sure your passengers do as well. Make it a habit to check the tire pressure, gas gage and windshield washer fluid. Only use a hands-free device for your cell phone. Keep your eyes on the road. Don't play your radio so loudly that you can't hear an emergency siren approaching.

Follow the speed limit, don't drive rushed, and use your turn signal at all times. Just think about the behavior from other drivers that makes you crazy, and don't do the same things

Always drive two cars ahead of your car,two cars behind and two cars on either side. In other words watch what the other drivers are doing .Stay alert to in car distractions ie...eating, checking makeup,kids,talking,radio/CD,cell, you get the idea. And drive as if your mother was in one of the other cars. Be careful and good luck...

yes, my father use to say: "if you want to be a good driver, you must drive with an fly eyes", I mean you must learn to look all arround at same time.
and never change your driving line suddenly, because it is the way to crash with the car behind you.
thank you for your answer minutes ago I AM CARLOS T
