Finding a long lost boyfriend rarely works out. Guys, such as myself, tend to find it a little creepy if a girl pops back into our lives. Why do you even want him? It apparently didn't work out before, and unless you just "happen" to meet somewhere, he'll almost certainly think you've become an obsessive stalker chick.
My advice is to get over it. It'll take time, and probably you'll need to find a real good boyfriend (I happen to be single...) But of course, if you're asking to find him here, you probably don't want to get over it.
If you find his phone number, do not call. If you find his address, do not write. If you find his email address, do not email him unless his email address is located on an obvious website that you can justify having visted yourself. Whatever you do, do not tell him you can't stop thinking about him.
Your best bet on getting any kind of relationship going is to "accidentally" bump into him somewhere, or to "Accidentally" find his email address. The Email address thing probably won't work, simply because you've got strong emotions, and will probably end up writing too much, and even if you don't he can delete it, and probably will, because chances are, since it didn't work out, he's either gotten over you, or has moved on to something which he currently thinks is better, and doesn't want to chance it. The "chance" meeting makes him feel guilty if he doesn't exchange numbers or something, just to catch up for old time's sake.
How to find him? The finding part borders on stalker issues, so I;d reccomend against it, but...
Police tend to agree that people don't really change their habits very often. A convicted murder that went bolwing once every four days will contine to do so with clockwork precision, no matter where he runs to.
Your boyfriend, hopefully is not quite that weird, but while you were dating him, you should have learned a few of the things he likes to do, and if you know where he is, you can check around those areas. Maybe he preferred specific types of jobs. Maybe he went to church. Maybe you can get a phone book for the city you think he's in, and just maybe, if you're lucky, he won't slap a restraining order on you.

Just get over him and try to find someone new, that you know. Because the guy you meet could be better then the old guy.
