If a broomstick falls company is coming. If it falls back it will be an unpleasant visit, forrward, a good visit. left, unwanted and right, they will only stay a short while.

Some people used to believe and still do in the superstition that if a broomstick falls company is coming and more times than not it is unwelcome company.

There's an old superstition about the falling leaves - when the leafs do fall, winter is soon to call. There seems to be some basis to that superstition. Its of newfie origin I think.

if thats the case, I end up with the wrong comapny coming over.
Is there any about something falling and you get to PICK who comes over?
the belief is actually that brooms invite death into the house. If it falls over for no reason when a person passes by.....misfortune must be anticipated. And if you walk or step over a fallen broom....its the same bad luck.

I know an old trick of majick that goes like this ----- if you have company over and you want them to leave, put a broom behind the front door. And yes, if you sweep around a persons feet it is suppose to be bad luck. But good luck to you! have fun with the question!!! - Lauren

I haven't heard that one, but I heard that if you drop silverware company's coming. If it's a fork it's a woman, if it's a spoon it's a child and if it's a knife it's a man... I think that's how it goes.
Brooms placed across the threshold are supposed to prevent unwanted company...
And if you sweep out the door with the broom after someone leaves, they won't come back.

"Jumping the broom" after a couple's "I dos" is a symbol of good luck. Standing it beside a front door of a house or bedroom keeps negative energy from entering, but one falling is a new one to me. I'm not willing to find out, if one should fall in my presence.

Never heard that one. But I know a few friends that believe it bad luck to have one's foot swept by a broom. Oh well. I think I'll keep an eye out on this one because I would like to hear someone that's heard about it. Thanks for the two points though.
