You are right, there isn't much. Then again, would YOU like to tell the world at large that XYZ-Systems is the best, and next day you receive 20 calls from lawyers representing client who just had both, an XYZ-System and a burglary.....?!
Even within brands, there is plenty of disagreement between "experts". Some say - for example - X10 is unreliable, while I have my whole estate secured AND extensively automated since years using X10 based technology, without major issues (a relay failing on one appliance module).
I would go for something modular, "cheap", flexible, and available at every street corner. But not a proprietary "complete system" which a purchasing manager of e.g. Home depot decided to buy today, and one month later you won't see it on anybody's shelf anymore, ever.....

Go to any of the manufacturers and look for reviews or ratings. You can also go on the internet with the question - wireless alarm system reviews. See what happens.
