This is a hard question - theres alot to be said for the greats from Bo Didley, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Brian Jones, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Elvis Costello, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Vai, Prince...this is a hard question. Depends on the criteria. I'll take Yngwie Malmsteen for being able to play fast AND make every note count, Steve Vai for his "Alien meets Hendrix" approach, Eric Johnson for having a "pretty" distorted tone , Joe Satriani for just totally getting nuts , the list can go on forever...

John Petrucci of Dream Theater is sweet, but for best all around guitarist I have to go with Steve Vai. The man is just amazing. Buy one of his live DVDs and you'll see what I mean. Jimmy Hendrix is probably the most influential guitarist of all time but in terms of talent he couldn't touch Steve Vai.

frank iero is the best guitar player in the world!! i also love chris the big guy from bowling for soup. my aunts friends with them so we actually get to hang out sometimes after shows
