I have red hair, fair skin, blonde lashes and light eyebrows. When I started to wear mascara and eyeliner I discovered that black was all wrong for my coloring. I would strongly suggest buying dark brown shades and stay away from blacks. Dark brown looks very natural on red heads. My favorite mascara is Professional by Cover Girl (comes in a light blue tube). I buy the one with a curved tip in brown. I have been using this mascara for a long time and I absolutely love it.
If you feel like the mascara looks too dark on your eyes even when you don't apply much, then you should look into something to darken your eyebrows. The eyebrows are the most important framers to your face. I recently got mine dyed, but you can also use waterproof eyebrow powders or correctional pencils. The darker your brow, the more natural your mascara and eyeliner will look.

Brown mascara would be the most natural. L'oreal makes good mascaras (voluminous is great) if you are looking for a drugstore brand or Lancome and Estee Lauder make great ones too if you are looking for something higher end. If you are going to a dept. store, ask for samples and try a few things out before you buy. They will almost always oblige. OH, and to prevent clumps, NEVER pump your mascara wand...just pull it out, there will be plenty on the wand. Pumping puts more air in the tube and dries the product faster, thus, more clumps.

Try a brown mascara, it won't look weird. Max Factor Lash Perfection is my favorite and doesn't clump because of the way the brush is made.

Omgosh! I'm a redhead, and I know what you mean. I use Almay Intense i-Color mascara for green eyes. It works really nicely, and as much as it intensifies the color of your eyes, it also emphasizes your hair color. Before that, I used Almay mascara in Brown/Black, that way it's not too intense, just subtley beautiful! Rock on! Redheads forever!!!! And no, you won't look weird, I get compliments that I'm gorgeous all the time, and I have such blonde eyebrows it's insane......if they weren't so thick, you couldn't tell they were there!

I use brown mascara, and brown eyeliner. I like Revlon. The best way to prevent clumps is to put on a thin coat of mascara then wait till it is completely dry before you put on the next coat. Do not put more than three coats.
