Most banks in Europe exchange dollars for the local currency. This is the easiest approach and you'll get a fair exchange rate.

You can exchange money at airport but I wouldnt, at least not in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. Your rate of exchange will be lower than if you go to a bank later. Maybe get enough for taxi or ride to your destination but no more than that. I live in Ukraine and as an American know that you get the best rates at banks, but even some of them vary a bit on exchange rate. Dont exchange large amounts of money at one time. I am not trying to alarm you, I love eastern europe or wouldnt be living here. But you do need to use common sense. Keep money in places it cant be taken. You can also use atm machines to get local currency at a good rate. Costs about .5% You will so love Slovenia and Croatia. Not going to comment on Bosnia because not sure if you are visiting family or what. Not my favorite vacation area, although the people I have met are wonderful and treat you like family when and if you get to know them. Good luck. Oh and yes, buy a calling card in europe. I like to use a card called Allo It is not the cheapest but rates are good and you always get good clear connections. Others cards I have used frustrate me because you are cut off during a call and they have a 2 minute billing rate so you just lost money there. Have fun!!

The final issues we ought to import are the yank legal device and social regulations, except you're comfortable with armed gangs in all our cities and an excellent violent crime difficulty. Or what approximately Europe transforming into america of Europe, having a president etc? - the ecu is already evolving in the direction of a united states of america of Europe kind. If the only remote places money and the ecu is to proceed to exist this is going to happen ultimately.
