I have high triglyceride levels and am concerned about taking medication. Currently I am using a Statin drug but I only want to use it for the short term. I also heard that Fish Oils are helpful

Don't take that unless you want to but it is just wasting money. If you decide to take it, make sure that you get the no flush niacin and follow the instructions on the bottle. If its not that, it could make your skin appeared flushed and red. I was told when mine came back at 297, to lose weight and eat lower fatty foods and to eat more vegetables and drink water. In doing that, it went down to 211 in 6 months. Now it is still high because there is a family history of high cholesterol.

Forget about the Niacin. It has actually been shown to elevate homocysteine levels, profoundly, which is a huge risk factor for heart disease. It can also cause as many side effects as the statin drugs, including high liver enzymes, and in the worst case scenario, liver failure.

Look into Red Yeast Rice, a perfectly natural and safe way to lower cholesterol without having to take statins. This article covers the basics quite well: http://www.holisticnetwork.org/articles/article_97.html
I've seen at least 300 people in my practise use this supplement successfully, without any untold side effects.

Niacin works but has some strange side effects. Start with one 1000 milligram timed release pill at bedtime for 2 weeks. Take a 325 Mg Aspirin 30 minutes prior. Increase the dosage every two weeks by one pill, Do not exceed three pills per night,
Some side effects are skin itching, hot flashes, "crawly" sensations on skin.
Omega 3 Oils may have long term benefits, but after a year have not produced any marked results for me.

Well niciadamide dosent do anything. If it says no flush your wasting your money. Nicatinic acid or nician for short the old style is best. The way to go is to start on 200 mg a day along with 10 grains of Iron-Ferruus gluconate and no other type, 25 mg of b1 50 mg of b2-Riboflavin 500 mg of vitiman c and 20 graind of dicalcium phssphate.
Take this dosage untill you nolonger flush then go up 100 mg on the nician. Once you dont flush anymore on this dosage go up 100 mg again untill you reach 2000mg. After you can handle 2000 comfortably go down to a daily dose of 200 mg. You must follow this regimen exactly for the results to be effective. You will run out old sunburns and other toxins will leave your body. This may seem wierd however if you do not run it through you will get stuck in the middle of one of these phenominem and it can definately make you sick. point being once you start this program the way out is the way through.

niacin doesnt lower LDL cholesterol/triglycerides very much (though it does a little bit, you could probably expect about 5% reduction, maybe 10%), its use more to raise "good cholesterol" (HDL).

i wont dose you online b/c i dont want the liability, but talk to a doctor or pharmacist if you wanna start up with niacin, you should start it slow though and work your way up because it can cause liver problems

fish oil can be helpful (its one of the few natural meds that work), but they dont lower it nearly as much as a statin does.

exercising and eating less cholesterol rich foods is probably the best way to lower cholesterol

Yes they will. But the drugs are brutal to your system. It has been found that old people live longer if they have high cholesterol than people with normal cholesterol. Figure that one out? Good luck
