I am wanting to become a teacher. (Elementary School) I live in Texas and I am needing to know what I need to do first. Can I do this at a junior college, or do I have to go to a four year university? Do I have to be a full time student or can I go part time? Are some of the classes avialable online or do I have to go to the school? Some one please help!! Thanks

I am a teacher in Texas and it will take at least 4 years of school. You will also have to do at least one semester of student teaching. If you only go part time it will take a lot longer to reach your goals. It is best to attend actual classes when you are working on degree specific courses. Some of the core courses can be done online such as english or history. The good thing about some of the online courses is that you will be able to work on them after work or on your own schedule. You can complete your core course work at the junior college level, but an education degree to teach in public schools will require a B. S. You will also have to take the TeXes which is the state exam for getting your teacher certification. Good Luck!

check out teacher.net its a chat center website. Second you may want to look at alternative programs such as teach for America. Do a search and go to their website. The job market is very bad right now despite all the teacher shortage reports. You need at the minimum a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. You will need to return to school for continuing education in order to get a permanent certificate. You probably need to eventually obtain a Masters Degree. You will need to take and past state exams. You will have to decide if this is definitely your calling. It depends on the college that you choose. I am in Michigan. Most people go to a community college it is cheaper. Then they go on to get their Bachelors at an University. They do their student teaching and then they get a job. Most of us who graduated with our teaching certs in December are still unemployed as far as becoming a teacher. We have taken long term subbing positions and we do not have any prospects for employment for the upcoming school year. There are 1200 applicants for every one teaching job in a good district. So again check out the Texas department of education website and the other websites I have listed and weigh your options. Good luck to you.

Find a job opening in an Elementary School and check out the requirements. It might also help to visit an Elementary School and talk to the staff. Good luck!

to be a full time teacher, you will probably have to have a teaching degree from a 4-year university. However, you should check with your local school district and see what their requirement for substitute teaching is.

you have to choose what subject you wanna teach. Then you have to go four year degree course for that subject then you go for one year teaching certification for that subject. that will be full time or part time in college. Plus one year certification full time or part time course in college or board.

IT IS BEST TO GO AHEAD AND GET A FOUR YEAR EDUCATION AND ATTEND AS MANY CLASSES PERSONALLY AS YOU CAN,..TRUST ME,..MY WIFE THOUGHT ABOUT DOING HER'S ONLINE BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH STUFF (ESPECIALLY 6 MONTHS OF UNPAID STUDENT TEACHING) THAT CANNOT BE DONE ONLINE.
