Sometimes when I turn on the shower, I smell sulphur or a rotting egg smell. What causes this?

My guess you are using "Well" water. You can get a filter system to take that odor away.

You are probably connected to a shallow private well. Most sulphur-free wells are 1000 feet deep or more. There are water filters that can filter out the sulphur coming into your home. That rotten egg smell gets nasty, doesn't it?

Sulphur in the water. If you have enough of it, the water may taste like eggs as well. This is still perfectly safe to shower in or drink, but if it bothers you, you could install a filter.

I'm assuming you have a well. Try changing the air rater valve. Those things really are only good for up to a year. If that doesn't help, shock water heater with bleach. Make sure you get it all out though.
