For several reasons. One is, it has your dead skin cells on it. Another is that once you dry off water, the towel is moist, once moist fabric is exposed to air, germs and bacteria can grow. Leaving your towel in the hot,moist steamy bathroom after you shower helps all these germies grow especially now that it has dead skin cells to help it along.

You were dirty when you showered yes? Would you use a paper towel to clean a dish after having used it once already.

Many have probably told you that thousands of skin cells (mostly dead ones) are removed with each toweling. In addtiion, possibly infectious material is absorbed by the towel if you have pus-filled pimples or boils.

There will be dead skin cells all over your towel, but it's probably not dirty. Could mildew though, if you live in a humid area.

After a towel get's wet and air dries a few times it can get mildew if it is not washed. It is not dirty from drying you off, it just get's wet without drying.

Because your dead skin cells get on it and make it smell bad. Have you ever smelled a towel you have used for a while? Eeeww.....

It ISN'T dirty. It is clean. It is dirty if you throw it on the floor afterward and it gets moldy cuz it's wet.
