depends on the occasion!
for a job interview wear a tonal blue striped tie (blue is supposed to induce calm and confidence for a job interview)
For a date go for something on the opposite side of the colour wheel- maybe a pink. Vintage patterns are big in mens ties at the minute, as are polka dots and we ladies appreciate a nod to fashion!
But keep the pattern subtle: bold brash patterns and colours are a big turn off for any occassion

i like the simple look for men in suits so i would say a dark blue tie to compliment your shirt or if you want to be a bit bolder go for a complete contrast, yellow is a really hot colour this season and could look good with blue if you go for the right shade. Hope this helps!

because you are wearing a light blue shirt a deeper blue is a must.
go to the tie rack and look in there silk range you will need to go for a shade darker than a royal blue.
tip: take the shirt along to compare shades and ask the assistant for his/ her opinion to be sure.
good luck

A diagonal striped tie, that has darker shades of blue in it. I think that would look really nice.

i think a dark blue would go good with a pale blue shirt... or maybe a printed tie that has blue in it....

Maybe a nice plaid tie that is white and perwinkle or the blue color would look very nice.

What color suit or pants are you putting with it?

I would use a pattern of colors, using the color of the suit, with maybe red, or dark blue, or green in it.
