11 dollars an hour at an independent station. lets just say they are the number one independent station in Arizona and we have oprah and dr phil on our station. 11 an hr with benifits and full time. so is that good pay? also what does it take to become a news director?

Well, it all depends. Is it a network affiliate, or an independent station? Is it full time or part time? are there any benefits involved?

If you are just starting out in the business, that would be about average for a video editor. I had worked as a master control operator in the Pittsburgh market for a while, and believe it or not, the pay was less than what you have been offered. Once you get your foot in the door, you always have the opportunity to move up in the organization.

I wish you the best of luck in finding a rewarding career in the media.

Update:
I guess the 11 dollars that they are offering is fair.
As far as News Director goes. They will want some experience in news-gathering. It really is not an entry level position, most stations will require at least some prior experience.
