I just got back from the WI State 4-H Hunter/Jumper & Dressage show yesterday. I didn't do any dressage tests but saw a few of them and thought they were really neat, espeacially the musical Kur. Does anyone have info on rules like the ammount of time, etc? I found a website with songs (equimusic.com) but it really isn't too helpful. I do know how to put songs together for different gates if need be. Any knowledge/info/song suggestions would be great. My Horse is currently at training level (as he is a hunter/jumper) but I have been told he has awesome movement & talent to go far in dressage. Thanks.

As far as offering you websites, I have none but I can offer you the few suggestions about the knowledge I do have of the sport. In the lower levels, tests/songs last about 3 minutes. In higher levels they last more along the lines of 5-6 minutes. You dont have to find a song for every different gait, you match your gaits to the song. Lets say that for instance your song has a nice steady 6/8 time going. You can be doing a nice lengthened sitting trot A 3/4 would be good for a shortened trot while a slow 4/4 would be for a slow canter. You get the idea. You will have to find someone who can mix music for you to watch you perform a dressage test so that s/he can get and idea of how your horse gaits. Then you need to work with your instructor to help you design a test and match the gaits to the music. It sounds hard and expensive, and it can be. Most of your time and efforts will go into the musical part but the rest of it will be easier.

Both dressage and reining to music is cool to watch - very precise thought and a lot of work to make it look easy!
