I needed resources on finding out how someone passed away. There are no relatives or family to ask. Looking for public records. If a person has passed on naturally it would not be posted on a death certificate. Any other resources? No autopsy if it was a natural death. Where would someone try looking to get such information?

If you live in the United States or another developed Western country, a death certificate would be filled regardless of the cause of death. It is a public record just go to the county recorders office and there you will be directed to the right room. Just fill in the paperwork and pay the fee and it will be given to you. The cause of death will be listed on the certificate. If it was from natural causes then it is a natural death. You want the exact event which caused the natural death? Usually it states it was heart failure due to something or another. I suggest you contact the morgue. Take in the certificate and it should jog the memory and the attending officer. Even if an autopsy was not conducted, other paper work exists with more information. Now, if you are not a family member, it could be difficult to get the exact cause of death on a natural death. These are confidential medical records and only relatives or a court order will get them released, even after death. Sorry.
