What's wrong with the referee's this year! They are card-happy which spoils the entire fun of the game. Come'on people, it was a clear cheapshot & playacting for Italy to get the penalty and the referee gave it to them! It was absolute bullCRAP unbelievable! He was probably tired and didn't want to run another 2X15mins. ruined the whole game!

I think that was clutch!! any expirienced player wouldve gone for the easy penalty.. you want to rip on someone.. rip on the aussie defender that made it easy..
and if you are going to complain, Italy shouldve been playin with 11 not 10.. that automatic red card was bull.. he wasnt the last man, and the defender was attempting to go for the ball.. just a late tackle, thats a yellow!
Refs havent been that good.. and thats why I say, have a backup ref watching the TV transmission and talk to the main ref on the field, this would save so much trouble and bad calls

Have some sports spirit guys. Referees do mistakes all the time, I think this one did well during the whole game, much better than the Russian referee yesterday in Portugal's game (Good thing the better team won anyway). The penalty might not be 100% fair in Italy game, but the Italian team was better and they deserved to win, I hope they keep their luck.

Impartial observers (actually, the reporters were cheering for Australia !) all agreed that the penalty was correct. Too bad, but correct. The red card however was NOT, especially with all the other &$^$ going on during this world cup. If that was a red card, the whole Dutch and Portugese team yesterday should have been kicked off.
I'm not a fan of Italy, and yes, they're somewhat theatrical at times, but give them credit for GREAT defending, GREAT goaltending and advancing despite all.

OMG the referee was such an @$$hole!! sorry but he got on my nerves and i can't believe that australia left the game. they deserved to go to the semi-finals with that awesome level they had. that italian sucke* was acting and it was day clear!! the whole ball's way wasn't were he stepped on the australian defender and he was smiling while letting himself fall! what a &$#@*#@($&!(@
i really wish brazil wins today to take revenge from italy :[
