To start with, Kenmore is just a label that Sears puts on their products, but Kenmore products are made by Whirlpool and other "big" names out there exclusively for Sears.

KitchenAid is pretty good. They aren't top notch or anything, though. I know a couple that recently purchased a $500 KitchenAid dishwasher and they are happy with it.

You might not have heard of them, but LG is a very highly rated appliance brand. The company started with home theater types of things and have only be on the appliance scene for about 5 years max, but they make great products. They actually patented the refrigerators with the freezers on the bottom. If you ever see a fridge like that by another brand, they purchased the design from LG.

GE should never let you down.

Also, there is a Best Buy exclusive brand that you should DEFINITELY check out - Siemens. Siemens is made for Best Buy by Bosch the way that Kenmore is made for Sears. The only difference is that Bosch, the maker of Siemens, is a century old company that creates, among other things, really high-end appliances. So, Siemens products are some of the best modestly-priced appliances you could find.

KitchenAid is crap. I bought a $600+ dishwasher (on sale originally $750) and over the course of 2 1/2 years we have replaced the plastic brackets holding up the top rack 3 times. Now the bottom rack is broken. We are not hard on dishwashers and I certainly expect it to last more than 2 1/2 years. Several of the controls don t work and it doesn t get the dishes clean - that s been going on a year. Also, the inside stinks because it does not properly drain. I HATE this appliance. I will never buy KitchenAid appliances again. We cannot blame the poor Chinese people because KitchenAid gives them the specs and they follow it - and cut corners and make crap. I m a single parent and can t afford another dishwasher. It was a major expense for me and I thought it would last 10 years so I tried to buy a good one. Sob!

Long standing company, quality product, one I'd recommend over many others.
