I like old fashioned acrylics the best. You can paint it on with a brush if you want but here are some helpful tips.
If it is 100% cotton shirts, wash and dry first so it will do all it's shrinking before you paint, otherwise it will pucker after some washing and drying.
Using a spray adhesive, spray onto a piece of HEAVY cardboard or masonite that is a little larger than the area you want to paint onto the t-shirt. Put your shirt onto it smoothing it out and pressing down so it is stuck. This will keep your shirt from moving around while you paint. Paint as usual. When done painting you can apply dimensional paints, maybe press some rhinestones or beads into dots of dimensional paint. Be sure to let the shirt/paint dry on the board before pulling it off. Wash by hand after wearing, and line dry is recommended if you use dimensional paints. Never iron.
These are really fun to do and are definitely one of a kind.

They make special fabric paint - you can buy it at craft stores. There are different kinds, like brush on paint, or puffy paint (in tubes).
