I wasn't allowed to see him, and now that he is 18 we've had contact. I'm to see him in a few weeks, and not sure how to handle it. Any advise?

Be a friend and take interest in him by getting to know him like you would a friend, not like a mom or a mom who has not been around. I met my day at age 25 and I was all excited about getting to know him and having fun with him, but I realized quickly that he had no fathering instincts (whihc was ok cuz i din't want a father figure all of a sudden) and pretty much was not a friend or someone I wanted to hang out with. He was boring, lazy and expected me to take care of his house and cook for him the shauvinistic bastard. I would have wanted for us to just chat about life and have a have a few drinks.

I would approach the relationship as friends especially at first. Also, be patient with him just enjoy his company do not try to prove anything. It is probably not a good idea to bad mouth his mother either, he will be sensitive to that.
