thank you all previous people for your ANSWERS. (sheesh)
Ok, the paper handling problem Is due to a little piece of rubber called a separation pad.
It has NOTHING to do whatsoever with the type of paper you are using, your printer driver, compatability with your system or anything else (98% certainty).
In SOME printers, this is a design flaw, and HP will ship you a FREE separation pad installation kit. This is a do-it-yourself thing, and involves no tools or opening of the printer, and can be done by anyone that can read and comprehend.
Call HP, and tell them what model printer you have, and ask about the free separation pad kit. Some people at HP won't know about it, so ask a few people. Also, your printer may not have such a kit available. If you know where the separation pad is, you can clean it with a product called Rubber Renu (MG Chemicals).
This also will fix it right up.
In some cases, sanding the pad with a fine sandpaper will bring it back, but it's not as good as the rubber renu...and actually, you should sand the pad before using the rubber renu for best results.
Worst case scenario, take it to a shop and ask them to replace the separator pad.
Again, thank you all who "ANSWERED" this question before.
May I suggest you all go out and get a dictionary and look up the word ANSWER.

There's probably a simple solution to a complex problem. First, check to see if your computer and printer are compatible. Then mae sure you have the drivers that work for your printer and computer. This can be done by going to the manufacturer's website and looking for the drivers and compatibility requirements for your computer and printer. As for the paper, make sure you have the paper that your printer rtequires, ie laser, dot matrix, etc. Some papers are different thicknesses so that they can perform better with certain types of printers. Again, this can be found on the label of the package of the paper and in the manufactureers requirements. You might also clear your printers cache to make sure it's only printing what you want it to print the way you want it printed.

Well, before you do anything drastic I would unplug the printer. Uninstall (add/remove programs) the software totally and then plug it back in and reinstall it. Sounds like the printer drivers or software are corrupted.
Good Luck
p.s. You can get proper drivers at the hp website. I think it is
http://www.hp.com go under "support and troubleshooting"...I have had a lot of luck there.

I had the same problem with the same printer. I found the problem is that it was a HP printer. They always cause problems. If you bought it and it's not that old return it. If it is an older printer, trash it and get a new one. That is what I had to do.

OK. If you have the drivers installation cd for the printer.. Uninstall the drivers.. and reinstall them. There might be a problem there.
Otherwise it seems mechanical, in which case you should have a technician check it.
