First decide on the state you want to live and teach in, then explore the colleges for those that offer a major in Education. It will take a minimum of 4 yrs to become eligible to teach, but the money is much better if you get a master's degree, usually 2 more yrs. Some states have programs to pay all your college expenses if you contract to teach in a rural area for several years. All your specific questions can be answered by the college you decide to enroll in. We need good teachers so it's great that you want to join this profession.

The first thing you should do is really look at a college or university that has a program for developing teachers. In other words, you will need to get a teaching degree. Included in this degree is the certifications you need to get to be able to become one. Before going to college for it I would recommend shadowing a real live teacher for a week to make sure this is what you want to get into.

most colleges offer teaching courses. Just research which one would be better for you. Pell grant may cover part of your tuition but they generally do not cover the whole thing. Do, some leg work, call/visit different colleges in your area and see which one has the best program.

Your pell grant is calculated as such
Your need - what they think YOU should pay (expected family contribution) = how much they give you
So if they think you will need about 10,000 (just an example) and they think you are rich enough to pay 5,000 of it, then they will give you 5,000 dollars.
To be a teacher you will need a four year degree in liberal arts and a year of student teaching, and to pass (in california anyway) the CBEST. I think thats what its called. Anyway its just a test. So you need all of that to be a teacher in the public school system.
Private schools can hire whoever they want to. So it depends where you want to teach. Theres a great website that has step by step everything, and you can find "so you wanna be a teacher" in their directory. I suggest you check it out

You will need at least a bachelors degree (60hours) but most schools like a masters degree. You can get a pell grant for the first 45 - 60 credit hours if you qualify.
