Most electronic stores sell laptop coolers that usually latch onto the bottom because of the natue of laptops. They have, throughout time, needed a way to get rid of heat, thy don't have the size for a good fan and don't want to fast of a fan or they will be too noisey. So they will always run a little hot: all the heat of a regular pc trying to be dispersed out of a fan the size of a dime.
Laptops have shown to have a negative effect on the male sperm count when sitting on laps unprotected, not sure about women though.

Try to make sure you use it on a hard surface. I know this sounds stupid, since it is a "laptop" but using it when it is resting on a bed or couch or carpet (or even a table with a tablecloth) can block the intake vents on some laptops, causing the laptop to overheat.
Most laptops will automatically shut themselves off if they are in danger of overheating (a friend's Dell would shutoff once a month until he got a laptop cooler.) If yours hasn't shutdown from the heat, I would say it's just normal hot laptop syndrome and nothing to worry about.

All laptops get hot. If you are really concerned u can buy a laptop fan. The fan sits under your laptop to keep it cool. Heat is not good for electronics, so the cooler it is the longer it will last.

Make sure the air is flowing and that none of the vents are blocked. If it still heats up, try reducing the graphics quality settings in some games.

It could be. My heat sink went and I had to send it to Dell for repair. Try elevating the back of it (with something like a deck of cards,) it will help keep the air flowing better.

It can slow down your applications. If it gets too hot, it can damage your internal components. Try buying a cool pad or using it for shorter durations.

Is the fan running? It shouldn't be really hot.
