All real gold has to be stamped with the amount of gold in it. pure gold is 24K it is very soft and easy to bend and shape. 14K and 10K are most popular. It is 14 parts gold and 10 parts of some other metals to make it harder and wearable. 10K being 10 parts gold and 14 parts other metals. If it is rings it will be stamped with that on the inside of the ring, if it is necklaces it will be stamped on the clasp.

Hold a magnet up to it. If it sticks, its plated. Plus, look on the clasp. If it says "14k" ( or 10k or 18k) then it should be gold as well.

fill a glass with lime juice..i mean pure lime juice..sqeezed..
and you put the chain in there..and leave it there for like a week..
.then take it out..and look at it and see if it looks any difference..if the color changed..any scratches that sort of thing..
and you will deffinatley know if its real gold or not..because silver rots in that sort of stuff..

Does it change colors? Is the part of your neck where the chain lies getting darker? If these are happening, then it's probably not real!!

Well, you can wait for your neck to turn green or wait for it to fade.
Or, you can take it to a jewelry store or check the clasp, cause it usually will say 10k, 14k, 18k or whatever karat it is.
