In Pele's Era, it dominated the world. Now, with countires like Italy seemingly becoming allergic to goals, the 3-4-3 is now a very attacking formation. I think if the right combination of players were used, the 4-2-4 could be succesful again. What do you think? If no, say why. If yes, tell me what team should use it.

There arent really any restrictions on individual lines. Personally, I would run a flat four, with my outsides pushing up on the wing. My midfielders would not be flat, but stacked, a defensive and attacking. Up front, I would have one on each side, one slightly behind, and one all the way up front, a sort of kite shape. My "defensive" forward and attacking midfielder could switch several times. Think it could work?

If you could elaborate, is that four strict strikers across the top? What do you see as the right combination of players using anyone in today's game? It seems your 2 in the middle would have to be tireless jackrabbit types.

I get it, sort of like a forward diamond instead of Sven's midfield diamond. I could see Chelsea doing this. I hate them, but they have the best players.
And they did sort of do this last year with Drogba forward, Robben and Duff on each side, but Gudjonsen didn't really play like a defensive forward I think how you envision, but he could, with Lampard attacking and Makalele holding.
Maybe next year they could look like this...

Drogba

Shevchenko Ballack Lampard Essien back four

Robben

the only problem with this is that soccer has developed into more of a passing game, so leaving your midfield empty is extremely dangertous. also midfields can be used in any part of the field, so they make it easy to change tactics on the fly.
