You probably need the correct drivers for the sound card on your computer. Or you need to replace the sound card. The drivers should have come in a CD with your computer. If not, visit the site below to help you find the correct drivers.

Most of the time of sound is not working, the card is not properly installed ot conflicting with another device. You need to remove and readd the card.
Try the following:
Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel
Click on the System icon > Hardware tab
Click on the Device Manager button
In the listing of hardware types look for the Sound group
Click the little + in front of the Sound group to open all the devices
Find your sound card and right click on it
Select Uninstall
The card should disappear from the listing
Reboot and XP should reinstall and the card and start playing it annoying little start up chime. Hopefully you will have sound.

well try these first.

some of them are stupid but honestly try these first.

1 is the power connected to the speakers?

2 is the GREEN plug connected to the GREEN socket on the back of the computer

3 Is there more then one green plug on the back of the computer ? if yes... try both.

4 is the volume turned up?

5 is the volume turned up on the sound panel?

(start/control panel/ sound/ turn up all the little volume sliders)

6 while in that menu.. are any of them on mute?

7 Is there a Device Driver for the sound card installed?

Here are some basic steps to find out if your device driver is installed on your computer.

goto start/control panel/ system/ hardware/ device manager/ sound, video, and game controllers.

are there any Yellow triangles? red X's?

if there is that will let you know that the pc has found a device but it isnt working.

if there is then..

rightclick that and select "Update driver"

choose look on the internet for driver.

You need to update the drivers only. Right click on the sound icon, go to properties, select update driver, that should do it.

It is also possible your sound has been set to mute. Check sound in your control panel and check settings.
